McGovern Capital (New York City, NY)
Kevin McGovern is chairman and chief executive officer of McGovern Capital LLC, which provides intellectual property rights strategy that originates, funds, structures and implements capital formation, joint ventures and business alliances. He is the principal of McGovern & Associates which specializes in corporate law and intellectual property strategy. He is also Chairman of Angstrom Publishing LLC.
Mr. McGovern is a Fellow of the Foresight Institute, a trustee at The Brunswick School and has served as chair of both the Educational Task Force of Southwest Connecticut and the Special Gifts Committee of the Greenwich United Way. He is the co-chairman of the Silver Shield Foundation, which provides college scholarships to the children of police and firefighters killed in the line of duty in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.
Kevin McGovern is a Cornell University Trustee (Co-Chairman of Technology/IP Committee) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Cornell Research Foundation. He serves as the Co-Chairman of the Technology Transfer Committee of the Life Sciences Advisory Board, as a member of the Cornell Center for Technology, Enterprise & Commercialization, and is a member of the School of Hotel Administration's recently established Advisory Board in Singapore. He also serves on the Executive Council for the Cornell Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise at the Johnson Graduate School of Management. He has been chosen as the Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year for 2007.
Mr. McGovern has served as a member of the Cornell University Council's Administrative Board and he is a founding member of the Cornell Club-New York. He is on the Executive Committee of the Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise Council, the College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Council, the Athletics Advisory Council, and the Fraternity and Sorority Advisory Council. A frequent lecturer at the Johnson School, he was the keynote speaker at the School's Entrepreneurship & Venture Capital Symposium.
Mr. and Mrs. McGovern frequently host events for the University, including an annual dinner in Florida for the President and high-level alumni. They established the McGovern Family Scholarship for athletes in the College of Arts and Sciences and have made significant commitments to the Athletics Campaign, the Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise (EPE) Founders' Fund, and White Hall. On May 24, 2006, the McGoverns celebrated their Foremost Benefactor ceremony on campus along with the dedication of the McGovern Fields on Game Farm Road.
Mr. and Mrs. McGovern have a daughter, Ashley, who is a transfer student in the College of Arts & Sciences, and a son, Jarrett, who is a 2003 graduate of the College of Arts & Sciences and was a four-year member of the Big Red lacrosse team. The McGoverns reside in Greenwich, Connecticut and have a home in Palm Beach, Florida.
Mr. McGovern has a law degree from St. John's University School of Law and studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a graduate of Cornell University.
Mr. McGovern is a Fellow of the Foresight Institute which focuses its efforts upon nanotechnology, the coming ability to build materials and products with atomic precision, and upon systems that will enhance knowledge exchange and critical discussion, thus improving public and private policy decisions. He is a member of the Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania Bars and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association Section on Corporations.
