Carl Eibl is a Managing Director at Enterprise Partners. In addition to serving as an investment partner, Carl is also responsible for managing the firm. At Enterprise, Carl leads investments in wireless Internet, Internet 2.0, and web and software based businesses, as well as restructurings and business buyouts and combinations. Carl serves on the boards of numerous Enterprise portfolio companies - BMS, Breach Security, DragonWave (TSX/AIM: DWI), Enviance, IdenTrust, LongBoard, Muze, NP Photonics, ReliOn, SKY MobileMedia, TradeBeam, and vMix. He also serves on the board of The Burnham Institute. Prior to joining Enterprise in 2003, Carl was the CEO of several high profile technology and life science companies in San Diego. As CEO of publicly-held Maxwell Technologies (MXWL), Carl led the recreation of Maxwell from an engineering and physics service organization for the U.S. military to a high-tech business. Before joining Maxwell, Carl served as President of Stratagene Corporation (STGN), now a public company but then a privately-held biotechnology company selling DNA, RNA, biologicals and laboratory instruments in the pharmaceutical and university biotech research markets. Carl also served as CEO for Mycogen Corporation a publicly-held agricultural, biotechnology company, which was sold to The Dow Chemical Company at the end of 1998 for $1.1 billion.
Carl holds a J.D. from the Boston University School of Law in Boston, MA, and a B.A. from Cornell University.
Carl sits on the board of The Burnham Institute and CONNECT, San Diego's globally recognized benefits organization fostering entrepreneurship in technology and the life sciences. Carl has been a member of the San Diego Coastal Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) for the past 12 years.
