Background

Dr. Fernando de Castro Reinach, Ph.D. serves as a Managing Director at Pitanga. Dr. Reinach previously served as Chief Executive Officer at Votorantim Novos Negócios Ltda. since 2001 and served as its Head of Life Sciences investments. Prior to Votorantim, Dr. Reinach has been a serial entrepreneur in Brazil. He served as one of the Founders of ComDomino S/A, of Genomic Engenharia Molecular Ltda, of Alellyx Applied Genomics Ltda and CanaVialis S.A. Additionally, he has been Senior Advisor for the Market of SG Biofuels, Inc. since January 2011. Dr. Reinach serves as an Advisor of Amyris-crystalsev Pesquisa E Desenvolvimento De Biocombustiveis Ltda. Dr. Reinach served as a Biotechnology Research Fellow from the Rockefeller Foundation and a Research Scholar of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He organized and was a coordinator of the Brazilian Genome project, an initiative by a number of institutions aimed at sequencing the genomes of Xylella fastidiosa and Xanthomonas citri bacteria.

Education

Dr. Reinach holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of São Paulo and a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Cornell University Medical College.

Dr. Reinach has been a Director of Amyris, Inc. (formerly Amyris Biotechnologies Inc.) since September 2008. In the past, Dr. Reinach served on the board of directors of Tivit Terceirização de Processos, Serviços e Tecnologia S/A and of Moksha8 Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
