Dr. Karim El Solh is a Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Gulf Capital. Prior to co-founding Gulf Capital, he served as the Chief Executive Officer and a Director of The National Investor Private Joint Stock Company (TNI). Prior to that, he was responsible for European High Yield/LBO Capital Markets at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette (now part of CSFB), where he was in charge of structuring, marketing, syndicating and executing European leveraged buyouts and high yield issues.
Dr. El Solh has been involved in over $20 billion worth of LBOs and debt financings in both Europe and the United States. Prior to joining DLJ, he worked as a Senior Banker at Citigroup Salomon Smith Barney, where he was in charge of originating, structuring, and executing new equity and equity linked issues from the Middle East, Eastern Europe, the Indian Subcontinent, and Africa. Dr. El Solh also worked for five years at Price Waterhouse, where he served as a Senior Advisor to emerging countries on a number of major privatization, restructuring, and project finance transactions.
Dr. El Solh serves as the Chairman of Metito Overseas Ltd. He has been a Director of Maritime Industrial Services Co. Ltd. Inc. since 2007. Dr. El Solh serves as Director of Gulf Capital and GC Equity Partners II. He served as a Director of TechnoScan, Ma’arif for Education & Training, Maritime Industrial Services, Depa Ltd., and Gulf Related. He served as Director of Gulf Marine Services W.L.L.
Dr. El Solh has worked on numerous transactions in SouthEast Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America in over 15 different industries. He has over 20 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, and asset management. Dr. El Solh was voted as the Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and one of the top 100 CEOs in the Middle East in 2007.
Dr. El Solh holds a Certified Management Accountant diploma, a Professional Engineer (PE) Certification, and an FSA certification from the United Kingdom. Dr. El Solh holds a Ph.D., summa cum laude, in Economics (privatization) from the Institute D’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Science Po); M.B.A. from Georgetown University; and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Cornell University.
